Embrace the Unknown
Don’t be afraid of the unknown. We go through life being told that we should not take risks. From the time we enter the school system we are indoctrinated to think that we should have a plan of what we will do in life. Not to mention that plan better not be a financially high-risk job.
What we should be focused on is our adaptability. We should know how to succeed with whatever job we take. I have had several different jobs. Not because I have commitment issues, but because I hit a point where I wanted to learn more. This sometimes meant finding a new job.
I have had jobs in the food industry, in retail, and in animal care. All taught me different skills, while also teaching me skills that would apply to the next job. With each job I have taken, I learned how to reinvent myself.
The Gabby that worked at Bell Tower Catering is not the same Gabby that is working at Bath and Body Works. I have grown, changed, and bettered myself in new and already existing areas. In other words, I was not scared to try a new role at a different job. I embraced it.
Taking a risk with education is another area we are taught to avoid through life. What we don’t like to tell our children is that it’s okay not to go to college. It’s okay to take a year or two to experiment with different types of jobs and figure out what path you want before committing to a…
